Suspect arrested after stealing a muffin, smashing car windows and beating a woman on Tuesday in Bloomington, Indiana – The Bloomingtonian

A 37-year-old Newcastle man was arrested on Tuesday after stealing a muffin, beating a woman and smashing the windows of two vehicles, according to the Bloomington Police Department.

Around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to the Courtyard by Marriott located at 310 South College Avenue. The man stole a muffin from inside the hotel, then handed over a service cart. A hotel employee followed the man, who then smashed the driver’s side window of a blue Kia Forte with a rock. The man also smashed the front window of a gray 2018 Chevy Equinox.

He approached a woman in the hotel parking lot and asked her for money, but she refused. So he grabbed the woman by the hair.

The 59-year-old woman he beat and the hotel worker followed him when police arrived, then police arrested the man matching their description on the B-Line and West Trail Second Street across from Kroger Seminary.

Police found crumbs from the stolen muffin next to the blue Kia Forte with the broken window.

The suspect is charged with criminal mischief (loss of at least $750 but less than $50,000), which is a class B misdemeanor, battery, a class A misdemeanor; and battery, a class A misdemeanor.
